The Bliss of Energy: A Journey Through Qi Gong, Nei Gong, and Internal Alchemy

Why Energy Feels Good

As human beings, we are naturally driven by pleasure. Everything we do, from eating a delicious meal to seeking success, is often an attempt to feel good. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that—it’s simply how life flows. The problem arises when we become attached to pleasure, making it the sole purpose of our actions. But when approached without attachment, vital energy cultivation itself becomes a source of profound well-being.

In the beginning stages of Nei Qi Gong practice, the body begins to realign and release blockages. Pain starts to dissolve, the breath deepens, and the nervous system calms down. As the body becomes pleasant to inhabit, our emotions and mind follow, naturally becoming more stable and joyful. This is the foundation: a healthier body opens the door to a healthier energy system.

Vital Energy: The Foundation of Transformation

When we speak about vital energy (Qi) in Nei Gong, we’re not referring to a mystical concept. It’s tangible. It's the life force that supports our physical, emotional, and mental functions. Through specific Nei Gong exercises, we begin to build this energy, especially in the Lower Dantian, located just below the navel. This is our energetic reservoir—a place where we gather and store the dense, foundational energy.

From here, energy begins to transform. As we purify and cultivate it, Qi rises and becomes more refined. It starts to circulate through the Middle Dantian—associated with the emotional heart—and eventually, the Upper Dantian, located at the center of the brain, often linked to spiritual perception and higher awareness.

The Three Dantians and the States of Energy

To better understand the inner alchemy of this process, we can look at the three Dantians as stages of energetic refinement:

  • Lower Dantian: Dense, vital energy—similar to ice. It supports health, structure, and grounding.

  • Middle Dantian: More fluid, emotional energy—like water. It allows movement, feeling, and compassion.

  • Upper Dantian: Subtle, spiritual energy—like steam. It enables insight, intuition, and unity.

Energy is one and the same, but it manifests in different densities. Just as water transforms from ice to steam, Qi transforms through our continued practice.

Bliss as a Natural Outcome

As the energy becomes subtler and more expansive, practitioners begin to experience bliss—not as a fleeting emotional high, but as a state of being. It arises when the body is open, the mind is clear, and the vital energy begins to interact with what we might call the spiritual dimension of life.

This bliss is deeply connected with the Ling Qi practice, an advanced Nei Qi Gong method that reveals the most refined aspects of internal energy. At this level, we begin to feel a profound sense of unity with life, where the boundaries between "self" and the world soften. It’s not an idea. It’s an experience.

The Trap of Power-Seeking

Many approach internal alchemy or Qi Gong with the desire to develop "powers" or achieve mystical experiences. While it's true that cultivating Qi can bring about extraordinary states, the goal is not power—it’s integration. Without a stable body and a grounded heart, even high energy can lead to imbalance.

The real treasure of Nei Gong lies in how it transforms the human being—from dense survival mode to a refined and expanded consciousness. The more energy we cultivate and refine, the more our emotions, actions, and awareness become infused with clarity, compassion, and presence.

A New Way of Being

Energy cultivation through Nei Qi Gong doesn’t just improve our body and mind—it changes the operating system of our life. As we open ourselves to subtle energy and spiritual awareness, we begin to feel a sense of bliss, wholeness, and deep connection.

This is the silent promise hidden in the discipline: not just vitality, not just emotional balance, but the awakening of a joyful presence—something that can only be understood through direct experience.
