The Path to Spiritual Growth: Wisdom, Methods, and Direct Experience
Spiritual growth is not just about engaging in practices such as Qi Gong, Nei Qi Gong, Yoga, or Meditation; it is also about understanding the nature of who we truly are. An intellectual understanding of the mind and life is essential for providing a clear direction on our spiritual journey.
The Three Pillars of Spiritual Realization
In my journey, I have encountered many teachings, especially within the Buddhist tradition, that emphasize three core elements necessary for true spiritual growth:
Correct Vision (Wisdom)
Methods (Practice)
Direct Experience of the Non-Dual State
Among these three, Correct Vision—or wisdom—is considered the most crucial. While practices like Qi Gong, Yoga, or Meditation can help us experience deeper states of awareness, without the right understanding, they can easily become mere rituals that don’t lead to true spiritual realization.
The Buddhist tradition teaches that correct vision is what frees us from ignorance and suffering. It provides the right perspective on life, allowing us to see the essence of our existence. Methods (like Qi Gong or Meditation) can help us experience this vision, but wisdom is what ultimately guides us on the path and ensures we are heading in the right direction.
The Three Visions of Life
In general, there are three main visions or explanations of life that people adopt, and understanding these is important for the spiritual seeker:
The Theological Vision: This view holds that reality is created by an external, divine entity and that everything has a specific, purposeful design.
The Materialistic Vision: According to this perspective, reality is the result of random chance, governed by the laws of physics, without inherent meaning or purpose.
The Non-Dual Vision: This view is common to all authentic spiritual traditions and suggests that the "object" (the world, life, external things) cannot be separated from the "subject" (the self, consciousness, the experiencer). In other words, the external and the internal are one and the same. Non-duality is about realizing that there is no true separation between the self and the universe.
The Role of Non-Duality in Spiritual Practice
Non-duality is becoming an increasingly popular term as people are searching for deeper meaning in their lives. More and more people are recognizing the limitations of other paths and seeking out a more integrated, holistic view of existence. Non-duality offers relief by providing a deeper understanding of who we are and how we experience the world.
If your spiritual practice is rooted in Nei Qi Gong, Qi Gong, Yoga, or Meditation, it is crucial to have an intellectual understanding of life’s nature. Recognizing the dynamics of human suffering and ignorance and having a framework that offers a solution will allow you to use your practice to unlock your true, imperishable nature. This wisdom helps you make sense of your suffering and see that it is not a permanent state—it can be transcended through awareness and practice.
How Correct Vision Supports Spiritual Practice
Without the correct vision, even the most advanced practices can become meaningless or ineffective. The goal is to understand the true nature of human existence and suffering—seeing through the veil of illusion that separates us from our deeper essence. Once you adopt the right perspective, your methods (whether they are Qi Gong, Yoga, or meditation) become tools to realize that you are already free. Your true nature is already imperishable and awakened, but the layers of ignorance cloud this realization.
